"Living with Less" Public Lecture

  • Wed, February 24, 2016
  • 2:00 PM
  • Mahone Bay Centre, 45 School Street, Mahone Bay NS

Before returning to university to pursue a Masters of Divinity and prepare for ordained ministry in the United Church of Canada, Lee Simpson was the publisher of Chatelaine Magazine (among others) for 16 years. Her career highlights include meeting four prime ministers, innumerable authors, entertainers as diverse as Gordon Lightfoot and Diana Krall, several supermodels and an astronaut. Along with maintaining a profile as a preacher in local congregations and  as a speaker in all ten provinces on behalf of the United Church Observer, Lee recently undertook the goal of buying nothing (except food) for an entire year. Her project grew from a private quest into a public challenge via a blog and later a book, My Year of Buying Nothing (published in September 2015). She is a happy wife, proud mother and grandmother, an enthusiastic and good cook, an enthusiastic and bad painter who loves Lunenburg County and expends her inconsiderable energy on local causes and volunteer work.

The Mahone Bay Centre welcomes you to come and hear her speak with her characteristic wit and warmth on how a private New Year's pledge changed her life. This is a free event and there is no pre-registration required. For more information please call the Mahone Bay Centre (902) 624-0890.
