  • Sat, October 24, 2015
  • 12:00 PM - 3:30 PM
  • St. Luke's United Church Lower Hall, 5374 St. Margaret's Bay Road, Tantallon, NS

Join Transition Bay St. Margaret's for a workshop consisting of a presentation and a tour of a nearby modern off-grid home! Some of the presentation topics will include:

  • Intro to off-grid
  • Types of off-grid systems
  • Off-grid for new construction
  • Off-grid as a retrofit for existing homes
  • Components of off-grid
  • Energy use reduction techniques
  • Trade-off choices
  • Cost of some sample off-grid packages
  • Discussion of off-grid living
There will be ample time for questions too! The tour will allow participants to see an off-grid house in action. On the main level it will become apparent that, in this house, off-grid looks a lot like on-grid living. In the basement you will get to see the the inverters, charge controllers, batteries, and so on that make the system go.

This home includes a geodesic dome greenhouse where vegetables are grown both summer and winter without the use of fossil fuels for heating and the greenhouse will be part of the tour.

The primary presenter for this workshop will be Cam Farnell, who has been happily living off-grid for over five years and has no plans to go back.

The fee for this event is $20 and pre-registration is required to ensure you have a place on the tour of the off-grid home. Because of space and time constraints, the tour will be limited to 40 people. To register or for more information please contact registration@bitflipper.ca.
