Growing Green Festival: Sustainable Housing Tour

  • Fri, August 21, 2015
  • 12:00 PM - 5:45 PM
  • Meet at Hodge Podge Community Garden, on the corner of Aberdeen Road and Elm Street, Bridgewater, NS

Come out and explore sustainable lifestyles in your community! This year our bus tour will stop at sustainable alternative homes in Lunenburg County, providing an opportunity to gain new ideas for your own home! Talk to home owners about what it's really like to live in sustainable housing.

The tour will begin at the Hodge Podge Community Garden, with a tour of the garden given by the Bridgewater Community Gardens Network. The tour will stop at the Crave Local: a Taste of Home event for those who have tickets, and return to pick participants up at the end of this event.

The following concepts will be covered during the tour: passive solar, active solar, wind energy, tiny homes, building with reclaimed material, and straw bale construction. The tour is by donation and is generously supported by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.

Please pre-register to ensure you have a spot on the bus by e-mailing Meghan Doucette, Festival Coordinator, at growinggreenfest@gmail.com. You are welcome to follow the bus in your vehicle. This tour involves walking and standing. Sites are not wheelchair accessible and washroom facilities are limited. Please bring along a water bottle and snacks if desired. Times are approximate and the tour will take place rain or shine.
